World Environment Day: Embracing Fireless Cooking

World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, reminds us to be good caretakers of nature. It is celebrated in more than 150 countries, raising awareness about ongoing environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and water scarcity and driving action to protect the environment and promote sustainable practices.
The success of World Environment Day 2024 can be attributed to the increasing awareness among people about carbon neutrality, the harmful effects of greenhouse gases, the significance of forest management, and afforestation initiatives.

History of World Environment Day

World Environment Day was started back in 1972, when the United Nations and a group of many countries decided to dedicate a special day to raise awareness about environmental issues. In 1973, the first World Environment Day was celebrated with the theme “Only One Earth.”

The theme for World Environment Day 2024 is Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience, and the slogan includes “Our Land, Our Future.” We are #GenerationRestoration

The Significance of World Environment Day

World Environment Day provides an opportunity to educate and inform people about the significance of our physical environment and encourages collective efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices for a healthy future. Also, we have several ways through which we can protect our environment, including reducing, reusing, and recycling, which help conserve natural resources and landfill space.

How did we celebrate Environment Day at Infotel?

Infotel India recently organised an event to celebrate Environment Day with a unique idea – fireless cooking. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about sustainable cooking methods that minimise carbon emissions and reduce their impact on the environment.

There was an overwhelming response from our employees at Infotel to take part in the fireless cooking event. Ten different teams with unique names denoting the significance of Environment Day were formed. We ensured that no plastic was used and suggested that the teams use eco-friendly products to prepare delicious and nutritious food. Each team was headed by a captain to overview the cooking process and ensure all the guidelines were followed.

We chose three exceptional dishes based on flavour, intricacy, use of sustainable ingredients, preparation time, and presentation.

By advocating fireless cooking, we highlighted the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and adopting more eco-friendly practices in our daily lives. This event served as a reminder for individuals to protect the environment through simple yet effective changes in their cooking habits.

Overall, the Environment Day event organised by Infotel India was a success in promoting sustainable cooking practices and raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. It served as a reminder that small actions, such as fireless cooking, can make a big difference in preserving our planet for future generations.
